Kalani Matton claimed the League’s weekly accolades. Dartmouth posted a 4-0 mark to remain in contention for the Ivy League Championship Series, while Cornell earned a 2-1 series win over Brown.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth junior shortstop
Nate Ostmo contributed at least one run in each of the Big Green’s four contests in a perfect 4-0 week. Dartmouth won the rain-delayed finale of the Brown series, 2-1 in 13 innings, before sweeping a three-game set against Princeton. Ostmo hit .353 with six hits in 17 at-bats, including a triple and two home runs to tie for the team lead with four overall.
The Portland, Ore., native accounted for eight runs via five runs scored and three RBI, while amassing 14 total bases over the four-game week. His most important hit was a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning versus Brown, which provided Dartmouth’s lone tally before a walk-off 2-1 win in the 13th inning. He also added a pair of walks in the Princeton series to accumulate a .421 on-base percentage and .824 slugging percentage on the week.
Ostmo is Dartmouth’s second-straight Player of the Week honoree—and third this season—joining
Sean Sullivan (March 19) and
Dustin Shirley (April 30).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth sophomore right-handed pitcher
Austen Michel registered the longest relief appearance by a Big Green pitcher in 29 years under head coach Bob Whalen as the Big Green earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brown in 13 innings on May 1.
The South Hamilton, Mass., product entered in the seventh and hurled seven scoreless innings of one-hit baseball to earn the victory—his third of the season. He allowed just two baserunners and retired the final 17 batters he faced to run his streak of earning a win or save to six-straight outings. That streak ended when he closed out a 6-2 Dartmouth win on May 6, securing the final six outs and allowing one earned run on two hits. Michel amassed five strikeouts over nine innings of work, while holding opposing batters to a .097 batting average.
Michel is Dartmouth’s second Pitcher of the Week award winner this season, joining
Clay Chatham (March 5).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
With Cornell trailing 6-2 with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Big red freshman shortshop
Kalani Matton pinch-hit for
Ramon Garza and sent his second collegiate home run over the fence in left center to knot the game at six.
The Walnut, Calif., native’s first collegiate grand slam came in what was eventually a losing effort, as Brown answered with a walk-off run of their own in the bottom of the ninth—the lone blemish in a Big Red series victory. Appearing in 2-of-4 games on the week, Matton hit .400 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. He also slugged 1.000 with a .400 on-base percentage.
Matton is Cornell’s first Rookie of the Week selection since
Mark Fraser on April 19, 2016, snapping a two-year drought for the Big Red.
