PHILADELPHIA -- Penn completed the indoor-outdoor sweep with a win at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Franklin Field in Philadelphia
The Quakers garnered 177 points to hold off four-time defending champion Harvard, which finished with 114. It marks Penn’s first team outdoor championship and first indoor-outdoor sweep since 1988, and the largest margin of victory since 2005, when Cornell won by 67.5 points.
Princeton came in third with 90 points, followed by Cornell (87.5), Columbia (83), Dartmouth (62.5), Brown (54) and Yale (14).
Harvard junior
Gabrielle Thomas was unanimously voted Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 100m and 200m, as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. In the latter event, Thomas pulled the Crimson to victory, overtaking Columbia at the finish line.
Thomas also earned co-Most Outstanding Field Performer along with teammate
Simi Fajemisin and Penn freshman
Ashley Anumba. Thomas claimed the long jump crown on Saturday, Fajemisin won the triple jump and placed third in the long jump and Anumba won the discus with a throw of 180-5, second-best in meet history.
Thomas is the first-ever Ivy to claim both Most Outstanding Performer awards since it expanded to Field and Track in 2012-13. Her three Ivy Heps wins gives her eight for her career, as she becomes just the fifth Ivy to win at least eight outdoor titles and the first since Yale’s
Joslyn Woodard claimed ten from 2003-06.
