Why did you choose to attend an Ivy League institution?
There were two main things that I was looking for that led me to the Ivy League. The first, was that I wanted to go to an institution where I’d be able to get a great education. The second, was that I wanted to play Division I basketball. It just so happened that the Division I programs that were the most interested happened to all be in the Ivy League, and I never seriously considered schools outside of the league after that.
How do you feel your Ivy League experience helped prepare you for your career?
It’s hard to say for certain without experiencing other schools, but I really believe there is no better place to prepare someone for life after college. Being a student-athlete in the Ivy League instilled the discipline and work ethic that can translate into so many aspects of life.
What makes an Ivy League experience different from other schools?
There are a few things that make the Ivy League experience stand out. One is the student body that you’re a part of. Obviously, it’s an educational opportunity that is second to none, but the students are all genuinely excited and curious to learn and improve themselves. That atmosphere is something special to be a part of. I also think loyalty is a huge differentiator in the Ivy League. The alumni base of all Ivy schools are very active and engaged, both with current students and new alumni.
What athletic accomplishment has the most significance to you?
The accomplishment that I’m most proud of is winning the Ivy League three years in a row and making the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2010, my senior year. We had a senior class that was extremely close both on and off the court and after falling short in the NCAA Tournament the two years prior, the 2010 run was so much fun to be a part of.
What is your most memorable experience from your time as an Ivy League student-athlete?
My most memorable experience isn’t one moment, but the relationships that I developed with my teammates and coaches. We’re all still extremely close and stay in touch constantly. The success that we had on the court was great, and something I’ll never forget, but the relationships that I have with everyone that was a part of that team are even more meaningful.
How did your Ivy League experience compare to your expectations?
The Ivy League experience completely surpassed my expectations on an academic, athletic and social level. The educational opportunities were endless, we competed at the highest collegiate level athletically and the people I met during my time will be friends for life.
What does it mean to you to be a Legend of Ivy League Basketball?
It is an extremely humbling honor. There is great history in the Ivy League and to be honored as a Legend is something I don’t take for granted.
What are you looking forward to most about the Ivy League Basketball Tournaments?
I’m looking forward to seeing some great games, with teams playing for the chance to go to the NCAA Tournament. I’m also really excited to be back in the Palestra, there’s not a better atmosphere to watch Ivy League Basketball Tournament games.
