Scrivens Earns Ivy League's 475th All-Time Olympic Medal With Canada Men's Ice Hockey

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- Cornell men’s ice hockey alum Ben Scrivens and the Canadian men’s ice hockey team claimed the Ivy League’s third Olympic medal in PyeongChang on Saturday, Feb. 24. The bronze is the Ivy League’s 475th all-time Olympic medal.

With a 6-4 victory over the Czech Republic in Saturday’s medal round, Canada men’s ice hockey made it three-straight Olympics with a medal—following back-to-back golds at Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014.

Scrivens manned the net for 149:17 during the XXIII Winter Olympic Games, compiling 42 saves and a 1-1 record for the Canadian side. He did not appear in the semifinals or bronze medal game due to a shoulder and collarbone injury suffered in the quarterfinals vs. Finland.

In 4-man bobsled, the United States team of Codie Bascue, Brown track & field alumnus Evan Weinstock, Steven Langton and Samuel McGuffie, crossed the line in 49.09 (12th overall) in Heat 1 and went 49.34 (10th overall) in Heat 2. The quad is the top American sled (9th overall) heading into Heats 3 and 4 with a cumulative time of 1:38.43.

The Canadian sled of Nick Poloniato, Cameron Stones, Cornell track & field alum Josh Kirkpatrick and Ben Coakwell finished in 49.40 (17th overall) in Heat 1 and improved to 49.23 (6th overall) in Heat 2. The quad is the No. 2 Canadian sled (13th overall) entering Heats 3 and 4 with a cumulative time of 1:38.63.

Dartmouth products Nolan Kasper, Tricia Mangan and David Choudounsky competed in the alpine skiing team event—alongside Megan McJames—but fell to Great Britain via tiebreak (2-2, 41.90-41.71) in the 1/8 final.
