Scrivens, Canada Men's Ice Hockey Bound for Bronze Medal Game

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- After a loss to the Germans in the men’s ice hockey semifinals on Friday, Feb. 23, Cornell men’s ice hockey alumnus Ben Scrivens will play for a bronze medal with Team Canada in PyeongChang Saturday.

Scrivens, a Cornell men’s ice hockey product, did not appear in Canada’s 4-3 loss to Germany in the Olympic semifinals, likely due to a shoulder and collarbone injury that has him listed as day-to-day. Scrivens has manned the net for 149:17 during the XXIII Winter Olympic Games, compiling 52 saves and a 1-1 record in PyeongChang. He has allowed four goals while splitting time with Kevin Poulin (153:54).

The Canadian side will now meet the Czech Republic—which eliminated the Ivy-laden United States club in the quarterfinals—in the bronze medal game on Saturday, Feb. 24. Canada men's ice hockey has medaled in five of the last seven Olympics, including back-to-back golds at Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014.
