PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- Twelve Ivies appeared in Winter Olympic action on Tuesday, Feb. 20, including PyeongChang debuts for
Lauren Gibbs and
Jamie Greubel Poser. The United States men’s ice hockey team advanced to the quarterfinals, while both American women’s bobsled pairs propelled their sleds to top four positions heading into the medal heats on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
Elana Meyers Taylor and Gibbs—a Brown volleyball alumna—registered start (5.22) and track (50.52) records (1st overall) in Heat 1 and went 50.81 (2nd overall) in Heat 2. Cornell field hockey and track & field alumna Greubel Poser and Aja Evans crossed the line in 50.59 (3rd overall) in Heat 1 and 50.99 (8th overall) in Heat 2. Meyers Taylor and Gibbs sit second heading into Heats 3 and 4 with a cumulative time of 1:41.33, while Greubel Poser and Evans are fourth at 1:41.58—each of the two sleds are within .32 seconds of gold medal position.

In women’s ice hockey classifications, Yale women’s ice hockey alumna
Phoebe Staenz (23:33) and Switzerland earned a fifth-place finish with a 1-0 victory over Japan. The Unified Korean team, featuring Princeton women’s ice hockey product

Randi Griffin (18:41), fell to Sweden in the seventh-place game, 6-1.
In biathlon, Dartmouth alumna
Susan Dunklee was part of the United States 2x6km women + 2x7.5km men mixed relay that placed 15th with a time of 1:12:05.4.
