Caldwell Contributes to Team USA Olympic-Best Finish, Nine Ivies Compete Saturday

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- An Olympic-best finish for United States cross-country skiing headlined Ivy achievements on Saturday, Feb. 17, in PyeongChang.

Dartmouth skiing product Sophie Caldwell was part of the United States cross-country skiing squad that finished fifth in the 4x5km relay—an Olympic-best for the women—with a time of 52:44.8.

Cornell men’s ice hockey alum Ben Scrivens allowed three goals in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Czech Republic. Canada (four points) now sits second in Group A behind the Czechs (five points), heading into their final group game against South Korea.

The United States also fell in its group play finale, 4-0, to the Olympic Athletes from Russia. The United States and assistant coach Keith Allain—the Yale men’s ice hockey head coach—will now face a playoff qualification match on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Phoebe Staenz (28:16), a Yale women’s ice hockey alumna, registered an assist as Switzerland fell to the Olympic Athletes from Russia, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
