PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- Eleven Ivies featured in Winter Olympic events on Thursday, Feb. 15, headlined by victories from Canada men’s and women’s ice hockey.
Dartmouth women’s ice hockey head coach
Laura Schuler-led Canada defeated the United States, 2-1, in the precursor to the presumed women’s ice hockey final. Cornell alumna

Laura Stacey (9:04)—also appeared in the Group A victory.
Canada will take on the winner of Olympic Athletes from Russia and Switzerland in the women’s ice hockey semifinals on Monday, Feb. 19. The Canadian side outscored its opponents 11-2 in group play, with Ivies tallying three goals and six assists. Four-of-six Ivies on Hockey Canada have registered a point in PyeongChang, led by Johnston’s team-high four points (2 G, 2 A).
The Canadian men also made their PyeongChang debut Thursday, with Cornell men's ice hockey alum
Ben Scrivens between the pipes. He allowed one goal in 60 minutes of action, en route to a 5-1 victory over Switzerland in Group A play.
In biathlon, Dartmouth skiing alumna
Susan Dunklee was the top American finisher in the 15km individual, placing 19th with a time of 44:33.5. Dartmouth rowing product
Emily Dreissigacker also competed for Team USA in the event, finishing 67th with a time of 48:16.4.
In alpine skiing, current Dartmouth undergraduate student
Tricia Mangan appeared, but did not finish, in the giant slalom—an event where fellow American Mikaela Shiffrin, who father Jeff was a skier at Dartmouth, captured the gold medal.
