By: Craig Robinson, Princeton Men's Basketball Legend
How do you feel your Ivy League experience helped prepare you for your career?
Looking back, there was no better way to prepare for real world experiences. Attending Princeton gave me the academic and intellectual capabilities to excel in my career. The fact that I participated in extremely challenging courses with extremely talented classmates gave me the confidence to know that I could compete in the working world with anyone doing anything.
What athletic accomplishment are you the most proud of/has the most significance to you?
While I’m proud to have been a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year, I’m most proud of the fact that we won three Ivy League Championships and two NCAA tournament games.
How did your Ivy League experience compare to your expectations?
Since my parents didn’t attend college, I had very few expectations and those were easily surpassed by the actual experiences of attending Princeton. The most important of which were the people I got to interact with in and out of class.
What Ivy League school did you enjoy competing against the most and why?
Easy, Penn. They were our main rivals on the basketball court. Those games were highly competitive and the fanantics were intense and entertaining.
How has Ivy League basketball evolved since your time as a student-athlete?
Outside of the fact of the athletes being better and smarter, I love the addition of the tournament and my only wish is that all eight teams get to compete.
How has the Ivy League community impacted your life or career?
It has given me a fraternity of people to call on at the most important times in my life. It also opened my eyes to the communities outside of the one I came from.
What does it mean to you to be a Legend of Ivy League Basketball?
This honor means a great deal to me. I did not attend Princeton to become a legend. I just wanted the academic and athletic challenge. Receiving this honor is as much about the rest of my team and the university as it is about my accomplishments. I wouldn’t have received this honor if not for my family, my team and my school.
What are you looking forward to most about the Ivy League Basketball Tournaments?
Watching my daughter Leslie compete for Princeton one last time and cheering on the men’s team.
