2018 IVY LEAGUE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS
The Ivy League men’s and women’s basketball tournaments return to Philadelphia, March 10-11, 2018. The top four teams will earn berths to the tournament, with the semifinals on Saturday and the championships on Sunday. LEAGUE NOTES:
- Penn earned a weekend sweep of Cornell and Columbia, pushing the Quakers to 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 2011-12.
- Princeton, which extended its home Ivy win streak to 21 games with wins over Columbia and Cornell, held back-to-back opponents under 40 percent shooting for the first time this season. The New York Ivies shot a combined .353 from the field over the weekend, as the Tigers held Columbia’s Mike Smith to 3-of-14 and Cornell’s Matt Morgan to 6-of-13.
- Yale opened Ivy League play with a 78-72 win over Brown. The Bulldogs are averaging 18.4 assists per game, which is eighth in the nation and lead the Ivy League in field goal percentage at .478. Trey Phills scored 23 points with seven assists and five rebounds in the win.
- Brown, which paces the League in free throw percentage (.758), shot a season-low 58.1 percent from the charity strip versus Yale.
- Three of the Ivy League’s top scorers – Cornell’s Matt Morgan, Princeton’s Devin Cannady and Yale’s Miye Oni – were named to the midseason watch list for the Lou Henson Award, which honors the top mid-major player in Division I.
- Cornell’s Matt Morgan ranks seventh in the nation averaging a league-best 23.5 points per game. The junior, who has led the league in scoring his first two seasons, has reached double-figures for the 38th consecutive game.
- 60 percent of the league’s top 15 scorers are underclassmen with a trio of sophomores – Brown’s Brandon Anderson (19.2 PPG), Columbia’s Mike Smith (18.4 PPG) and Yale’s Miye Oni (16.9 PPG) currently in the top five. Seven teams have at least one underclassman among their top contributors.
- Penn is averaging 78.5 points per game, tops in the Ivy League, marking the first time the Quakers have averaged above 70 since the 2006-07 season. Sophomores Ryan Betley and AJ Brodeur rank inside the top 15 of the league’s scores averaging 15.4 points and 12.1 points, respectively.
- Harvard is allowing just 66.9 points per game, best in the league. The Crimson has held its last even opponents below the national average of 1.05 points per possession, but own a 3-4 record during that stretch where the Crimson offense shot .390 percent from the floor and .293 percent from deep.
- Columbia’s Lukas Meisner paces the Ivy League with 6.6 rebounds per game, while Cornell’s Stone Gettings and Steve Julian aren’t far behind in second with 6.5 boards per game.
- This week features four games, all of which will be broadcast on Ivy League Network, as well as regional television partners. The Ivy League Network is available on Apple TV and Roku and the ILN app for Androids and Apple Devices.

AJ Brodeur averaged 24 points and 8.5 rebounds this weekend as the Quakers earned a weekend sweep of conference foes Cornell and Columbia. Penn moved to 3-0 in Ivy League play to mark its best start since 2011-12.
Brodeur filled up the statsheet for the Quakers in Friday’s 69-61 victory against Cornell, registered 18 points and nine rebounds. The sophomore forward dished out six against the Big Red, one shy of his career best. In the Saturday night matchup versus Columbia, Brodeur led the team to a 77-71 victory with 30 points and eight rebounds. His 30 points were the high for a Penn player this season and five shy of his career best a season ago versus La Salle. In the first half, the Northborough, Mass., native dropped 22 points and grabbed six rebounds, including a person 11-point run, punctuated by three treys in the final 1:44, that turned a 24-22 deficit into a 33-23 lead at the half. Brodeur was 12-of-22 from the field and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc against the Lions.
This marks the first weekly award for Brodeur in 2017-18. Brodeur joins classmate Ryan Betley, who has won Player of the Week three times this season. The sophomore is enrolled in the Wharton School of Business.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Princeton freshman Jerome Desrosiers averaged 13 points, 3.0 rebounds, shooting 69.0 percent from the floor (5-of-8) and 80.0 percent from deep (4-of-5) as Princeton completed a weekend sweep with a pair of double-digit victories over Columbia and Cornell.
Against Columbia, Desrosier was one of three Tigers in double figures as the rookie registered 12 points. Desrosier shot 80 percent from the floor while nailing four triples. On Saturday, the Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., native turned in a career-high 14 points versus Cornell, giving his him third 10-point game of the season, all in the last four games. With the two wins, Princeton extended its Ivy League home winning streak to 21 games, its longest since winning 21 straight from 2010-13.
This marks the first weekly award for Desrosier in 2017-18. Desrosier joins classmate Sebastian Much, who took home Rookie of the Week honors for the week of December 18. It's the first time two Tigers have earned the Ivy weekly rookie honor in the same season since Amir Bell and Aaron Young did so in 2014-15. Princeton has now won four weekly awards this season.
