Jeomi Maduka, Cornell

A two-sport athlete for the Big Red, Jeomi Maduka starred on the court and on the track for Cornell. She garnered 16 first-team All-Ivy recognitions and six second-team All-Ivy nods during her four-year career, helping Cornell to seven Ivy League championships—one basketball, three indoor track & field and three outdoor track & field. Maduka was named the Ivy League Performer of the Meet at three indoor track & field championships and two outdoor events. She was also the Ivy League Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year in 2006 and the Player of the Year in 2008.

In all, Maduka collected seven varsity letters—three in basketball and four in track & field—from 2005-09. She still holds the Big Red indoor records in the 55 meters (7.02), 60 meters (7.45), long jump (21’ 11 ¾”) and triple jump (43’ 10 ½”) and outdoor records in the long jump (21’ 10 ¼”), triple jump (44’ 2”) and sprint medley relay (3:48.41). Maduka was a seven-time first-team All-American in track & field and added an honorable mention selection in women’s basketball in 2008 to become the first Cornell women’s basketball player to earn national accolades.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, Maduka obtained her M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2014. She is currently a resident physician at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
